Canberra Geeks, Nerds, Dorks - We Want You!- 'Beauty and the Geek' 2011

Never seen so much rubbish – I hate the way the default position is the geek guy and the female “beauty” – and I would hope any nerdy guy would have the good sense (not guaranteed, I know) to steer clear of the vacuous. Furthermore, for the info of Holden Caulfield, the Silicone Kid, who is a friend of mine, is a very busy person doing a myriad of amazing things, he has a high level career – his page in the CT is just one of his relatively minor, but enjoyable, occupations.

I have no real issue with the show, but think that the premise – that the contestants need to be changed so that their personalities are less nerdy or less ditzy – is a bit wrong. People should live their lives how they want to live their lives, and so long as their way of life isn’t adversely impacting anyone else, what is the harm?

It is so trashy it is elevated to kitsch status, I reckon. (Haven’t watched the Aussie version, but I used to sometimes watch the US one late at night.)

I wish the skills taught would actually develop both groups to make them better people with well rounded skills. I suppose changing a tyre, learning to touch type, or general arithmetic doesn’t make great tv, but it would be a lot more useful that sliding down a lubed up slide onto a giant map.
