A Canberra man is accused of killing a 74-year-old who died about a week after he was in a two-vehicle crash north of the ACT earlier this year.
Trevor Arthur Kelly, a 50-year-old from Banks in the ACT, was charged over the Hume Highway crash at Gunning from 19 July 2023.
Originally, NSW Police said emergency services were called to the scene around 4:30 pm and found a semi-trailer and a Toyota had collided.
Police said the 74-year-old man who had been driving the Toyota was freed by emergency services and airlifted to Canberra Hospital in a critical condition.
Mr Kelly, the alleged truck driver, was uninjured.
On 30 July 2023, over a week later, investigators learned the older man had died in hospital.
While Mr Kelly had already been handed charges, after the death of the driver he was handed more.
His matter was heard in the Goulburn Local Court on Wednesday (30 August), where Magistrate Geraldine Beattie continued his bail, adjourned until 25 October and excused him from appearing on the next occasion if he was legally represented.
He has been handed charges of dangerous and negligent driving occasioning death, as well as dangerous and negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm.
