It was a bloody good effort from Nick, albeit one with a few lucky breaks with line calls and net cords. He showed amazing mental strength to save so many match points, though, it was great theatre.

I really hope he does well. While his on court persona is quite arrogant at times, I’m assured by those who’ve come in contact with him that he’s a great kid. His post-match interview last night was pretty good, he seemed level-headed afterwards which was nice to see.

Hard luck for Gasquet as well, but kudos to both for providing such entertaining tennis.

Indeed, a great effort.
He reminds me very much of the young Leyton Hewitt who was an unknown until he flogged Andre Agassi in Adelaide..
