Mediterranean food is one of my favourite cuisines. I don’t know how anyone could not like it! I was super excited for this edition of Cheap Eats because I had decided to feature Civic restaurant Taze and their $10 lunch special.
Taze do lunch packs and they offer a variety of choices: lamb or chicken skewer packs, the shaved lamb bursa pack, a Haloumi burger, and the vegetarian pack containing one falafel, one zucchini fritter and one vine lead roll.
I ordered over the phone and opted for the chicken skewer pack. Because I don’t work in Civic, I was at the disadvantage of not being able to just wander into Taze without having to find a parking spot first. Taze is located on Genge Street, just opposite the big outdoor car park. I was convinced I would easily find a street parking spot so didn’t need to go into the open outdoor car park. How wrong I was! I drove around for 10 minutes looking for a spot, and then fortunately I nabbed a five minute parking spot on the street.
Dashed into Taze to grab my lunch, eyeing off my watch because I didn’t want to get a parking fine. I got a bit frustrated because I could see my order there waiting for me but the service was a bit slow. It took a few minutes to get a staff member to come to the counter, and then it took a few more minutes to put the sale through. Once I got my order I was walking back to my car so fast I don’t think my feet were even touching the ground.
Thankfully, I didn’t get a parking fine and my meal turned out to be great. It had a massive amount of Turkish rice, a good sized kebab and a portion of salad. The chicken skewer was actually huge. It probably could have been seasoned a touch more but overall it was pretty yummy. Great value for money for just $10.
Would definitely return to Taze for lunch again – next time I’ll be eyeing off the haloumi burger!
