Coffee Bitch #90 Me and Mrs Jones, Kingston

coffee bitch

It takes about a year to get my coffee.

No not really but they fail the three minute test.

A nice roast though.

Deep, woody, mocca, rich.

Alive on the tongue.

Though not strictly a cafe, I’m here because it’s night.

Cafes are thin on the ground.

You can treat this venue as a cafe, day or night, and it does a lot of takeaways during the day.

It is large, with an outdoor sit down area, and really high ceilings inside,

Seating a large number of noisy people tonight, and it’s early in the week.

On this night a sound system plays “Tilly’s” style music.

The open kitchen is busy and my nostrils are arrested by garlic.

Three beans

three beans

‘The Upper Class in Kippax…’ I suppose everything is relative.

PoETix! This is your second snobby post in a fortnight. What has come over you, proud member of the working classes and not an arriviste despite living in the leafy inner north?

It was just the name, guv. Just asking’ for it, it wos. Wot’s an arriviste? Is that wot the rich folk do at them ‘hairports’?

Word on the street is that ‘The Upper Class’ in Kippax is considering its name to ‘The Aspirational Middle Class’.

Askin’. I can’t even let mistakes go when they happen in a deliberately semi-literate sentence.

Sounds like their coffee is possibly better than their food and their service. One out of three ain’t gonna cut it though.

You go there to share fairytales, and stare at the beautiful women.

She’s looking at you, oh no… she’s looking at me.

🙂

Fair dinkum these reviews are lame!!

I thought given the tasting notes and apparently exclusive consumption of milk based coffees that they were meant to be perodic. You know, taking the piss out of culinary reviews that take themselves too seriously.

I don’t mind them. Useful to know places to avoid. I’m not sure what your point is about coffee with milk – time and a place for it, I think. And ‘parodic’.

They usually play cool or west coast style jazz at Tilly’s, or relaxed modern styles derived from that origin. Was it jazz?

Whaaaa? The most-often played track at Tilleys is the Andrews Sisters’ Boogey Woogey Bugle Boys. They play out-of-copyright music and nothing Australian or contemporary – presumably to avoid paying artists’ fees.

A year to get your coffee? I bet Gloria Jeans in Quangers can beat that. They’re amazing. and I don’t even get coffee from them (sure it’ll be a milkshake), that’s just for the mango slushies. I have never seen such slow drink service, anywhere, any time. They suck! There’s a business opportunity at Riverside.

The Upper Class in Kippax Fair serves the best coffee in town. Hipster free.

Over-priced, over-rated and full of hipsters.

Why does it need loud music? People go to eat, drink and talk, but they have to speak louder to get their voice over the noise (sorry, music), even out in the footpath dining area.

Food businesses struggle with margin enough already,so why not add a monthly APRA/AMCOSS bill to the mix? I don’t know, they think it adds atmosphere but it’s more often a pain.

Interesting review. Thanks for sharing!

What’s the maximum number of beans that you’ve awarded in the past and to whom? i.e. where have you found Canberra’s best coffee?
