Hi Rioters,

This Sunday (22 September 2013) Conservation Volunteers and the Friends of Mt Painter will be doing some work at Mt Painter (Cook). FoMP group have a long history of good environmental practice in restoration work in the Mount Painter Reserve, and have been working to restore the biodiversity and the native plant population in the reserve since grazing was ceased in the area. The aim is to restore the Mt Painter reserve to its original state as an ‘open woodland’.

The volunteers this weekend will be assisting with the placement and fixing of ‘coir logs’ to stop erosion, and then placing some woody plant material on the coir logs to prevent kangaroo damage and erosion. We will also be placing tree guards around some earlier tree plantings to protect them from kangaroo damage.

If anyone is keen to join the project, please flick an email canberra@cva.org.au. There will be transport available from / to our Civic Office, or we can provide you with meeting point details if it’s more convenient.

Thanks!
