Who doesn’t love a good cupcake? Even if you’re vegan, paleo or gluten free (and these days, who isn’t?), there’s a lot to like about a freshly-baked cupcake with lashings of icing.
A&E Cupcake, founded by business partners Elaine C and Cecilia P in October, is the latest home-based Canberra cakery whose range of delicious cupcakes, cakes and cake pops cater to almost any dietary requirement.
Cecilia is a talented cake decorator and Elaine specialises in making vegan, paleo and refined sugar-free cakes. Their combined skills and experience has led to the development of some seriously creative sweet treats.
A&E Cupcake’s paleo cupcakes, for example, are made with either raw honey or grade A maple syrup, organic coconut oil and coconut milk and are flavoured with nuts and fruit, while the all natural rainbow cupcake is a sugar-free banana cupcake coloured with beetroot, kale and pumpkin and topped with vanilla cream cheese. The natural rainbow cupcakes are particularly well-suited to kids’ birthday parties, though they’re just as popular with adults as with children.
You won’t find any pre-made cake mixes or artificial flavourings in Elaine or Cecilia’s kitchens – it’s all real stuff!
You will also be thrilled to see A&E Cupcake’s custom designed cupcakes and cakes involving animals, people, flowers or any other modelling figures that require the use of fondant. Each creation is given its own unique personality and special touch to produce an exquisite and innovative piece of art.
Their inspirations come from everywhere: art, fashion, fabric…but most of all, their inspiration comes from each one of their incredible clients. A&E Cupcake’s motto is “if you can imagine it, we can create it”.
The most popular A&E Cupcake flavours are lemon meringue (a zesty lemon cupcake filled with lemon curd and topped with cream cheese icing and crumbled meringue) and Mars Bar salted caramel (a decadent chocolate cupcake with salted caramel filling, caramel icing and gooey Mars Bar chunks).
And according to A&E Cupcake’s glowing online reviews, every flavour is worth sampling.
“I was delighted to know that the cupcakes were specially made for me, keeping in mind my extreme list of dietary requirements. [They were] the most amazing cupcakes I have ever had the pleasure of eating… I would definitely say I am addicted,” one satisfied customer posted on A&E Cupcake’s Facebook page.
“The Lego and photography cupcakes I ordered for a friend were delicious masterpieces! They were just the perfect treat and made our day. I’ve already placed my order for the Christmas party,” another commented.
Elaine and Cecilia specialise in cupcakes, but they’re also experts at creating spectacular birthday and wedding cakes. (Let’s just say that if somebody ordered me the Neapolitan rose cake – three thick layers of chocolate, strawberry and vanilla cake with rose-shaped buttercream icing– for my birthday, I wouldn’t complain.)
All A&E Cupcake products are made to order and are freshly baked on site in Harrison. Vegan and gluten free items are prepared and stored in a separate area of the kitchen to prevent contamination with animal products or gluten.
Prices start at $4 per cupcake, with a minimum order of six.
