Drama at Aussie Junk today?

Around lunchtime today (Wed) I noticed two Police vehicles exiting Aussie Junk (the rubbish recycling equivalent to Revolve located at Mitchell) and several people (presumably Aussie Junk workers) congregating on the footpath outside.

Next a TV film crew arrived (ABC I think, their vehicle had “Z” plates) and appeared to interview these people. Anyone know what was going on?

[ED – according to WIN News a big employee entitlements fight]

Still, I was hoping that Revolve had more of the surplus building supplies, bricks and the like, but nope, still need to find where they end up.

Stop going to Aussie Junk then and go back to Revolve.
They aren’t gone, just relocated to the Resource Recovery Estate on Mugga Lane.

Gosh now I am red-faced. I had no idea, haven’t been there since I thought Revolve was closing.

I wonder how Aussie Junk make their money if Revolve is still active nearby? Can Revolve still fossick in the tip or is it all donations?

There was a bit of stuff there, not as much as Aussie Junk around the corner though, and unfortunately for them most of it’s not under cover.

At this stage it looks like it’s purely drop off donations for them, however, I do recall reading about one of the Skip Bin Companies doing Resource Recovery from the stuff that comes back in their Skip Bins, and with one being next to Revolve, maybe that stuff ends up at Revolve.

Still, I was hoping that Revolve had more of the surplus building supplies, bricks and the like, but nope, still need to find where they end up.

Aussie Grubs

All is indeed groovy, Danman!

: )

@ Granny – All is good in the world – I didn’t even see th eoffence in your postings – was merely having a dig at my lack of work efforts during my 8 till 4 weekdays 🙂

Stop going to Aussie Junk then and go back to Revolve.
They aren’t gone, just relocated to the Resource Recovery Estate on Mugga Lane.

The original ‘Revolve’ started as a Commonwealth funded job creation project which proved to be a great success and spurned a myriad of similar projects within Australia and in the UK according to the following link: http://www.cpa.org.au/garchve07/1316canberra.html

Revolve encouraged people to recycle and goods were available at a cheap price, sometimes even free.

A great community idea turned into an opportunity for profit. The goods are more expensive, the staff are not being paid their entitlements and the incentives to recycle are reduced.

What was the government thinking?

it all goog

I get paid and rock up but…

Or maybe I’m getting old and parts no longer work like they used to.

maybe I need to change my moniker to Gramps

@ Mutley, I bet yours does not sound like a 2 stroke at wide open throttle though ?

I wasn’t having a go at you, Danman. I have pretty much never had a paid job is all.

I remember when I worked…..

🙂

What is this ‘worked’?

*chuckle*

2 pulls and it starts.

I keep getting emails about some pills that can help you with that.

I remember when I worked…..

🙂

Seriously though that Mugga Lane Antique store is a bit of a rort – coupla hundred dollars for some wrought iron work that was salvaged from a tip.
In saying so, last weekend I bargained at mitchell aussie junk(I just droppe off a 52cm telly and some curtain rods)

There was what looked to be a brand spanking new mower and catcher on the dock – they wanted 45 – I said 30 he said 40 i said 30 he said 35 and stood firm.
I stated that I would no tbuy it for that much as I had just dropped off a perfectly good huge telly and walked.

Thats when they backed down and gave it to me for 30..

Got it home, it needed new blades (Stolen from old mower), new head gasket (Permatek forma-gasket and razor blades) and new magneto (Stolen from old mower as well) – just got it stared this morning after 2 weekends – 2 pulls and it starts.

That place is good for bargains if you’re quick.

I have paid a total of $45 andseveral man hours and gotten a ryobi line trimmer and victa mower….both now working….and paid next to nothing for spares (If no donor available )

Big thumbs up for me….but unscrupulous selling of wares on eBay…thats just tight arsed.

I remember when i worked out at the tips and i always thought that you guys were dodgy. Overcharging and reselling on ebay and not properly declaring your earnings. It was all in a days work to notice what you guys were up to.

like dead man jogging you mean i could be wrong butt i think that if your just a shopper you dont know if workers where paid well butt you seem to know it all i’m just telling you what i think butt

there you go with your bull shit thay are not my workers im just a shopper at the mitchell store and i think that where paid well butt i could be wrong you seem to know it all im just telling you what i heard so exercise that dead man

What goes around, comes around …. You should not oppress your workers, shopper66.

GUESS WHO SHOPPER 66 WORKS FOR/IS

LOUD NOISES!!!

Deadmandrinking2:52 pm 11 Oct 08

OF COURSE. THEY THOUGHT THEY MIGHT BE ENTITLED TO THEIR PAY WHICH THEY DID NOT RECEIVE. BUT NOW THAT IT’S DOCUMENTED IN CAPS, WE ALL UNDERSTAND THAT THEY DID NOT DESERVE THEIR PAY BECAUSE THE DARED TO EXERCISE THEIR RIGHTS. HOW DARE THEY!

THE BIG BOSS CAME DOWN TO CLEAN OUT THE DEAD WOOD THERE WERE 3 WORKERS THAT THOUGHT THEY OWNED THE PLACE SO HE MOVED THEM ON AND PUT NEW MANAGERS IN. IT,S ALL GOOD NOW

serfchoices…. love it.

It only went up in the last half hour.

Thanks Jack, I did look on ABC news website before I posted but couldn’t find any details.

Aunty has a report here.
Depot workers sacked amid pay dispute!!!
Three workers have been sacked from a Canberra recycling depot in the middle of an investigation by the Workplace Ombudsman into claims they have been underpaid.
Police were called to the Aussie Junk business at Mitchell when the men refused to leave the premises after they were handed termination notices.
Sacked worker Justin Winters says he and other members of his family who work at the depot have not received overtime and superannuation entitlements.

There I was thinking someone had put their recycling in the wrong bin!

I didn’t think ABC had Z-plates….

Maybe AFP Media unit??
