Drunkard lost in Thredbo?

By redneck_ninja - 11 September 2005 7

Police and SES are looking for this bloke in Thredbo who failed to return home from the pub early this morning.

Either the guy got lucky with a lady last night and has neglected to tell his flatmate, who raised the alarm this arvo, or he’s gone and drowned in the Thredbo River which has swelled due to the early spring melt.

Oh yeah, it’s snowing and it’s bloody cold at the moment.

UPDATE The ABC has this story here.

from the SMH this morning:

Police divers will today search Thredbo River for any sign of a 27-year-old Sydney man missing in the Snowy Mountains village since Sunday.

Police yesterday scaled down the search for Adrian Arregin, of Lalor Park in Sydney’s south-west, who was last seen drinking at a pub in Thredbo village three days ago.

Friends raised the alarm when he didn’t return to his accommodation on Sunday afternoon, police said.

Three police officers and 13 State Emergency Services workers are expected to resume a search on foot at 9am (AEST) today.

Another four police divers are also expected to arrive in Thredbo Village early this afternoon to search Thredbo River, police said.

Grave concerns are held for the man’s welfare after freezing temperature were recorded in the region.

I wonder if we’ll get a call to go and help the search?

They’ve got more helicopters as well I think. Police rescue had fun white-water rafting yesterday down the Thredbo River I think.

Me thinks this guy could a goner as the police now have divers in the river as of today.

That was ages ago, 1985 apparently. Except I don’t think his brother was walking home from the pub. We’ve had a few people get lost – first some Chinese tourists who were found pretty quickly, and another skier who rang his mobile phone to get help or something. This is the first serious case we’ve heard in a while.

The four guys we were looking for were found later by someone else, in Spring, after the snow melted.

They were very dead.

Didn’t Simon Crean’s brother fall into the river and wasn’t found until the thaw?

They’ll be making some big announcement soon about the poor guy. The guy was wearing a red and white shirt with jeans when he was seen walking out of the pub. Blizzards expected this arvo, so not the best weather atm.

Geez, last time someone went missing up there I spent quite a few frozen days tromping around with the AFP doing a search.

Bloody horrible….

And we didn’t find them because they were buried in a snow cave.
