Elderly Eden woman in Canberra Hospital, hit by car on mobility scooter

An elderly woman from Eden is in Canberra Hospital after being hit by a car while riding her mobility scooter.

The 70-year-old sustained serious head and pelvic injuries when a P-plate driver allegedly reversed his car into the woman on Saturday morning.

“Emergency services attended the scene and treated the woman before she was airlifted to Canberra Hospital in a serious condition,” police report.

“About 11.10 am (August 10), a 19-year-old man, reversed his vehicle out of his driveway on Flinders Street, Eden, and allegedly hit the 70-year-old woman driving a mobility scooter.

“Officers from the Crash Investigation Unit attended and established a crime scene.

“Following the inquiries, the driver was arrested and charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm – drive manner dangerous and using a mobile phone while driving.

“The man’s licence has been suspended.”

He was granted conditional bail and will appear before Eden Local Court on October 9.
