dendy has some awesome films coming up. Pan’s Labyrinth which previewed at shadows is fantastic. babel is great. the reason for so many smaller theatres at dendy is so that as many of the film foreign festivals from shadows can be screened, they are been organised at the moment. also the smaller theatres allow for more obscure films or local releases. as for the shadows building i dont think anything has been decided yet but it would make a fantastic jazz bar or something similiar with minimal renovations- some keen local entrpreneur, with a mind to keep the underground feel of shadows should put some money on the table.

lest i be condemned as a cassandra may i point out that dendy are showing fucking ‘happy feet’.

arthouse cinema in canberra is dead.

the prosecution rests.

I’ve been wondering whether the old Electric Shadows Cinemas would be converted into a nightclub or something similar to Academy where the Civic ES was located.

Anyone know what is to become of ES?

What about the old JB Hi Fi/Impact venue?

The old double cinema space of the Shadows would make an excellent two act live music venue with minimal renovations now wouldn’t it……………..

It’s got a raised floor so the punters at the back could see the bands properly to boot.

Shadows hasn’t shown “Eraserhead” for a good five-six years now anyway – annoyingly, the late-shows seemed to have died off (victims of late-night penalty rates?)

and yet another canberra tradition bites the dust.

i spent soem time in melbourne earlier this year and was disgusted to see that the ‘arthouse’ cinemas have all been thoroughly corporatised and showing mainstream films.

you may think because its showing at the nova its alternative, but youre being conned.

and now its arrived in canberra.

i fear i’ll never see eraserhead on the big screen again.
