As sent to all ANU staff and students

An Emergency SMS messaging system for staff and students has been established – details can be found at http://emergencysms.anu.edu.au/ . To date, about 2,300 staff and 4,300 students have registered their mobile numbers. Authority to send an emergency message is limited to the Vice-Chancellor.
A test of this system will include a broadcast to those staff and students who have registered their mobile numbers for emergency messages. Testing will occur once per Semester.
The first test will be on Wednesday 8 August.
The message will say:
*******
ANU Emergency SMS System – TEST – 12pm, 8Aug.
No action required.
If you are not ANU staff or students, please call (02)61255498
*******
If your mobile number is registered there is no need to react to the message (the system monitors delivery).

Not very exciting but might interest somebody.

I’ve often wondered how you’d deal if a real emergency came up at test time.

So you know what the number one thing to get on the next scavenger hunt will be…

Anyone able to remotely compromise the message delivery application or system could have themselves a LOT of fun!
