On your next trip to the Far South Coast, keep an eye out for perhaps the best-looking highway patrol car in the NSW.

In the spirit of positive community engagement, the NSW Police Force has applied an indigenous theme to two of their Traffic & Highway Patrol Command vehicles.

The two vehicles are currently based in the Eurobodalla and Bega Valley and the Orana Mid-Western Police District.

Aboriginal artist, Rachel Treacy has created the design, in consultation with the Aboriginal Programs branch of the NSW Police Force and the community.

Assistant Commissioner Peter Barrie said the intent of these vehicles is to not only provide effective policing services but to also mark the respect the NSW Police Force has for indigenous culture throughout NSW.

“The NSW Police Force is committed to ensuring our ties with Aboriginal people are strong and [that we] act in partnership in the prevention of crime,” Assistant Commissioner Barrie says.

Commander of the NSW Traffic & Highway Patrol Command, Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy says these new-look patrol cars will highlight the partnership the police have with indigenous communities and the shared aim of reducing serious injury and fatal crashes across the state.

The intention is to extend the project to the Northern Region and the Sydney Metropolitan area with two further vehicles scheduled to receive an indigenous makeover at a later stage.
