Tuggeranong Arts celebrates First Nations artists in performance, visual arts and workshops happening in NAIDOC week and beyond. The week of celebrations begins with Whine and Weave, a live music and a weaving workshop on Thursday 6 July.
If you have wanted to learn how to weave, discover the joyful meditation of slow-stitched coiled weaving with proud Wiradjuri woman, Rechelle Turner. This traditional practice is undergoing a revival; share with Rechelle as she yarns about her own cultural journey as you kick start your own. Using raffia, Rechelle will help you to master; making a centre, growing and shaping your own coiled piece that you to take home.
Learn step by step the basic weaving and coil weaving techniques with raffia from Rechelle, and while you are making, enjoy the wonderful music by Tahalianna Soward-Mahanga. All materials will be provided and enjoy a complimentary drink on arrival.
