Don’t miss out on The People’s House at MoAD. Image: MoAD.

This year the Museum of Australian Democracy (MoAD) at Old Parliament House celebrates those who made this house a hive of activity for more than 60 years. Step inside the People’s House after dark and discover the untold stories of people who kept the clocks ticking, meals cooked, hair coiffed, memos typed and the parliamentary record accurate.

This year MoAD collaborated with artist Trevor Dickinson whose illustrations brought Canberra’s beloved bus shelters to life. Inside and outside the building, Trevor has reimagined the people, their tools and workspaces across time in this iconic building. Choose your own adventure roaming the corridors with the Hansard reporter or gossiping with the hairdresser. The maintenance worker might even spill a few secrets about the building if you’re lucky. History comes alive (and has a few surprises for you) in this free, hands-on experience for all ages.

Find out if you have what it takes to be a 1940s Hansard reporter or a 50s maintenance worker. What about a 60s typist, 70s hairdresser or a chef from the 80s? The MoAD team will give you a crash course in one (or all five!) of these jobs. Have a crack at as many tasks as you can to collect a souvenir for your efforts.
