Hyundai is holding its first N Day at the Wakefield Park racetrack, and you’re invited.

When you think about high-performance sports cars, Hyundai isn’t the first marque that comes to mind, but that’s all changing with the launch of their N performance brand.

Most carmakers have a specialist operation that turns their normal cars into sportscars. Think BMW’s M, Ford’s RS, Audi’s RS, and Lexus and Jaguar calling their performance brands ‘F’.

Hyundai’s first model to get the N performance treatment is the popular i30 hatchback, which gains a more powerful 202 kW motor, locally tuned sports suspension, upgraded brakes, a trick front differential to get the power to the ground and a rarity these days, a short-throw, six-speed manual transmission that turns the i30 into the i30N.

There are more N cars to come, too, so it’s clear Hyundai is investing in their performance brand. And another sign they’re serious is the fact that they just won the 2019 World Rally Championship for Manufacturers.

Hot lap in a Hyundai

Experience high-speed, hot-lap thrills at Hyundai N Day on 15 December at Wakefield Park.

That’s why Hyundai’s taking over Wakefield Raceway on 15 December, and inviting anyone and everyone to come and experience what performance cars, grassroots motorsport and the N brand are all about.

The exact mix of activities is to be determined, but so far the plan is that you can experience high-speed, hot-lap thrills in the Hyundai Time Attack racecar or Targa tarmac-rally car, driven by pro drivers, and see the amazing Drift Bus which has caught the imagination of car enthusiasts worldwide.

There will be concept cars, food trucks, supplier displays and technical talks by Hyundai’s motorsport guru Geoff Fear, and world-class Aussie rally driver Brendan Reeves. Owners of i30N and Fastback N vehicles will be allowed to take their cars on track either solo or with passengers, along with RiotACT motoring writer Jane Speechley, who will be track-testing an i30N, so stay tuned for her review after the event.

There’s no charge for entry or any activity, so head down to Wakefield and discover for yourself the exciting world of sportscars and fast fun!
