Take one look at Greg’s old Gretsch Tennessee Rose leaned up against his Vox AC 30 amp and you’ll know that that Little Buster has a deep respect for the past – at least where music is concerned.
This is a band that plays good time rock ‘n roll the way it’s meant to be played – without too many effects or too many decibels.
It’s rock ‘n roll with authentic instruments and a fun attitude. Dr Krissy’s bass is strung with flat wounds for that ’50s sound, and Maudie has tuned his drum kit to sound like the real deal, the way it was in the ’50s and ’60s. At a Little Buster gig, you’ll hear Buddy Holly, Elvis, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, The Beatles, Creedence – all the good old boys, and some of the good old girls too.
Apart from Greg on guitar, the band comprises Dr Krissy on bass and vocals. A classically trained pianist and medico, she moonlights as a virtuoso bass player. Graham ‘Maudie’ Maude fills out the backline on the drums and on vocals. As Greg says, “The advantage of a trio playing our sort of music is that it doesn’t get too noisy – you don’t get that wall of sound”.
The volume is sensible so you can hear all the instruments and the lead vocals are shared to mix it up. The songs are wide and varied but have one thing in common – they’re great to dance to.
