Fuel reduction catfight breaks out.

By johnboy 12 January 2006 4

The Canberra Times has got a lovely story online in which the Saviour of Tharwa (not to mention trouble-maker and bane of smug bureaucrats), Val Jeffrey, calls for fuel reduction responsibility and funding to be returned to firefighters. The response to his call seems to make the argument.

Executive director of Arts, Heritage and Environment ACT Dr Maxine Cooper said she would need more specific information to comment on budget cuts.

Dr Cooper said a 12-month strategic plan included 500 activities to minimise the bushfire risk.

Oooh, a 12-month strategic plan including 500 activities you say? Colour me impressed!

What’s Your opinion?

I saw an article on win last night apropo fire reduction in the act. it described the actions at harcourt hill where the gummint removed deciduous trees to create a break between homes and paddocks.

Why on earth did they remove the deciduous trees ?

Does Harcourt Hill have a community fire crew ?
