Our next guest on the ‘get to know your Cavalry’ segment is a relative newcomer to the capital. Arriving from Sydney for the 2016-17 season, David Kandilas has quickly made a name for himself as a big hitter. The figure known as the ‘Kandi man’ sat down with The RiotAct this week as we sought to learn more about the man behind the name.

How long have you played for the Cavalry?

Last season was my first here in Canberra. I’m from Cronulla so I played for the Sydney Blue Sox before that.

Favourite Cavalry memory?

Yeah there is one that stands out, the first home game I played for Canberra. We actually played against my old team Sydney Blue Sox and I hit two home runs against them in that game so that was pretty fun. It sticks out for sure!

Who is the best player you’ve played with here in Canberra?

That’s a tough one. I can’t actually pinpoint any one player! It’s definitely more of a team effort.

Toughest opponent?

Not a player but a team, Brisbane Bandits. Always a tough match and they’ll be challenging again this year.

Best roommate on away trips?

My girlfriend for sure! On the rare occasions she gets to travel with me.

Funniest/embarrassing moment?

Way too many to pick from!

Best piece of advice?

Hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard.

Movie you’ve seen the most?

Star Wars. I’m a bit of a nerd when it comes to a galaxy far far away.

How far can the Cavalry go this year?

I honestly believe we have what it takes to go all the way and claim the championship.
