Good string instrument valuations, service?

Good evening, rabble,

I have a 4/4 ‘cello that needs to be valued and given a quick “service” to ensure it is in good working order: sound post, bridge position, check for any cracks, check tone is still up to scratch etc.

Having done a search on RiotACT for “cello” I was unable to find a post that already existed on this topic, and was hoping there may be some keen string instrument players who could point me in the right direction.

Google was surprisingly also unhelpful.

Thanks for any assistance.

~Mark.

There is a string specialist in North Lyneham I believe who could service your full size cello.

Also, the friendly young lass who answered the phone at Davis Wheeler recommended Simon Daly who is up in Curtin now. The Interwebs show he used to be down in Tug-a-long. Will let you know how that goes, and thanks for the steer in the right direction, qbngeek.

Well they haven’t done me wrong in the last 7 years, so it is a recommendation I am happy to make. They are also good at sourcing hard to get special edition instruments without charging the earth for them. I am glad they were able to point you the right way.

I wouldn’t have thought the size of your cello matters…but…I’d take it straight to Hugh Withycombe – http://www.violincello.com.au/

Definitely go with Simon Daley – reliable and knows his stuff

+1 for Simon Daly.

Can you use a 4/4 Cello to play music written in 3/4?

It’s so hard to gauge if sarcasm is being used when you just have text to work with… I’m going to guess that as you know different time signatures you are having a jape. Well played sir. (in 6/8 time, off course.)

Call Davis Wheeler in Phillip. They have looked after my guitars and pianos and I have found that if they can’t do it they can point you in the direction of someone who can.
