The Governor General (or GG as her mates know her) is throwing a bit of a bash this Saturday at her place. It’s a free event, so get ready to party on with the Queen’s representative.
These days are good family fun, and the Governor general’s property and house are gorgeous.
There’s usually a heap of entertainment. I’ll be there doing something science related.
You should come, stuff starts at 10 and ends at 4.
“I am delighted to open Government House and its beautiful gardens for a Family Picnic Day on 21 September 2013 to mark the Centenary of Canberra,” the Governor-General said.
“The Centenary is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about and reflect on the important role Canberra plays at the heart of our nation. In hosting the Family Picnic Day — perhaps one of the largest events ever held at Government House – Michael and I look forward to welcoming the Canberra community and guests from further afield and celebrating our capital’s 100th birthday together.”
Up to 20,000 people are expected to take advantage of the rare opportunity to picnic in the gardens, tour Government House, and enjoy live entertainment, food stalls and a range of action-packed games, activities and displays for the whole family.
Just a heads up there is usually next to no parking available so don’t drive if you can help it.
ACTION run free buses to and from the event, check that out here.
