Hackett is turning 50, and it’s inviting you to its birthday party.

It’s not called the “Hackett Half Centenary” for reasons unknown.

About
Hackett’s 50th birthday bash will be held over the weekend 21 – 22 September 2013 to commemorate 50 years since the suburb was officially established.
Description
The celebrations will be officially launched at 12 noon on the Saturday by Ms Robyn Archer, Centenary of Canberra Creative Director. The launch ceremony will include the singing of ‘Happy Birthday Hackett’ by local pre-school children and the cutting of the birthday cake.

A Reminiscing Corner with photographs of early photos will provide an opportunity for present and past residents to recall earlier times in the suburb.

There will be stalls selling food, books and craft items and food together with kid’s activities including face painting and a visit by Kenny Koala.

During the course of each day there will be live performances by dance groups, school groups and street entertainers. There will also be live music by various bands and a local DJ from 5 to 10 pm on the Saturday.

The local Blue Gum School will also be holding an Open Day and fete on the Sunday.

In previous years we have attracted many thousands of people over the two days and we are anticipating similar number for this birthday party.

It will also be a particularly memorable year for the Mount Majura region as our Watson neighbours will also be celebrating their 50th birthday on Saturday 16 November 2013.
