Holt Magpies is situated within the golf course at Holt. A remote place to find a laksa, but if you’re up Belconnen way and in search of a Laksa, a worthwhile visit – here’s a blow by blow comparison:
A SK Laksa for comparison purposes is a straight 10/10/10
HM Taste (Flavour) = 10
Size = 9
Ingredients = 10
Decor/Cutlery = *
Waiting Staff = *
Cost = 12
Details:
The HM Laksa is a very nice laksa, although there was only one type of noodles in the Laksa. As I got the takeaway version, it was slightly smaller in size to the restraunt version, but I was impressed by the amount of ingredient that came out when I poured it into a bowl at home. Soup/Flavour was slightly higher than a SK Laksa, but evens out against the single noodle. Price must be the cheapest in Canberra, at $9
On an ambience note – even though I didn’t stay for a sitdown meal, they have recently refitted the bar, and its always great to sit down and have a beer on a Friday night. Holt Magpies is quickly becoming quite popular, and was absolutely packed with young jumpy types, most probably there for the festivities involving beer and raffles starting at about 7pm on a Friday.
Overall rating, I give it a 10, comparable to a SK laksa, and very good value for money. Especially good if you want the chance to return home with more beer than you left with or the occasional meat tray.
