Canberra Airport has confirmed that Bunnings Warehouse will be opening a new store at the Majura Park Shopping Precinct next year.
The giant home improvement and garden products business will occupy the 13,500 sq metres previously occupied by Masters to the north of the precinct, with parking for 350 cars.
Work to reformat the building, which will require 100 staff, will take several months ahead of the new store’s opening in mid-2018.
Canberra Airport Managing Director Stephen Byron said the Airport looked forward to welcoming Bunnings Warehouse to Majura Park, Canberra’s pre-eminent large format shopping destination.
“The arrival of Bunnings, coupled with the recent opening of AutoBarn and Dan Murphy at the shopping centre, are fantastic additions to our customer experience and breadth of offer.
“With other tenants including Costco, Woolworths, Aldi, Big W, Toys ‘R’ Us, and a range of specialty stores, Majura Park offers a true, all in one shopping experience where people can purchase everything from hardware to groceries, homewares, outdoor gear, fashion and much more.”
Bunnings General Manager of Property, Andrew Marks echoed the sentiment.
“We’re looking forward to offering Majura Park customers the convenience of our widest range of home improvement and outdoor living products backed by the best service,” he said.
Bunnings said a site of this size allowed it to increase the range of products on offer to the local community.
No decision had been made about the future of the nearby Fyshwick store but Bunnings said it would keep team members and the community informed.
Team members who would like to work at the new store will have an opportunity to transfer.
