Major winners are guaranteed on the picturesque Federal Golf Course at Red Hill on Thursday, September 12.
Regardless if a golfer hits a hole-in-one and ends up with a Lexus worth $62,500, or a trip-for-two to Augusta for the US Masters, worth $45,000, there will be big winners – the biggest being Camp Quality.
This charity, which does not receive government support, helps children impacted by cancer – either through their own diagnosis or someone they love (parent, carer or sibling).
McIntyre Property principal Col McIntyre says leading a family-orientated business, and dealing with many families he felt it was important to support people in Camp Quality with like-minded goals.
For the six to seven years he has been associated with Camp Quality he has been most grateful to see the strain this charity takes from the shoulders of families coping with serious illness.
Team registrations for the fun day on the Federal course close on August 29, so businesses should ensure their team is registered with McIntyre Property. Teams of four can register for $1400.
Col always mixes in a variety of events and entertainment at the popular McIntyre Golf Days, and this year has booked comedian and hilarious story-teller-with-songs Hamish Hudson, reinforcing Camp Quality’s belief that laughter is the best medicine.
“I have been to a few Camp Quality balls, they have had comedians there too, which gave me the idea to have a comedian at the golf day,” Col says.
Ivan Slavic, an ACT Camp Quality esCarpadian (esCarpadians and their navigators go bush once a year in old cars raising money) says 151 Canberra families are relying on the charity’s support.
“The greatest satisfaction I get out of working with Camp Quality is seeing the kids so happy. Their motto is laughter is the best medicine, and it is well known the fun therapy is quite beneficial to helping with their treatment,” Ivan says.
“The charity is not only for children diagnosed with cancer, it’s for adults as well. Statistics say one in two adults will get cancer by the age of 85. Camp Quality is also helping children of parents who have cancer as well. That is a big plus.”
This is the third year Lexus Canberra has offered a luxury car for the McIntyre Golf Day. Col hopes this year’s model, a NX 300 SUV will be won at the Federal Golf Course.
“Teed Up is sponsoring the trip-for-two to the Masters. It is all expenses paid, including flights,” Col says.
“I have actually done that trip myself,” he says. “Unfortunately, I had to pay for mine. It is an excellent experience. A golf day should attract golfers, if one was to hit such a winning shot they would be absolutely stoked. It is a huge event that goes around Augusta. So, I really appreciate the Teed Up Golf tour support.
“Here’s hoping this year we have to give both prizes away.”
Col says Realestate.com.au, Asset Property Inspections, Stihl Chainsaws and McDonalds are also among many sponsors for various holes, raffles and other prizes.
“It is not a cheap day, it is $1400 a team, but if I make it too cheap I may as well donate money to Camp Quality and not put myself through the hassle of hosting the day,” he says.
“The aim is to raise as much money as possible, if everyone puts in a little, we hope to raise a lot. It’s a good networking event, I have had a lot of the same supporters over the years, business houses will bring their good clients or their friends, have a good laugh, it is a very social day.”
