A Karabar man will front ACT Magistrates Court today (9 November) after allegedly trying to outpace NSW and ACT police in a car missing a tyre.
ACT Policing officers had been informed by their NSW counterparts they were chasing a grey Subaru Liberty station wagon at about 10:45 pm on Wednesday (8 November), which was heading for the Territory.
The vehicle was located driving along Athllon Drive in Wanniassa a short time later, with police stating they saw the rubber from the rear passenger-side tyre was completely gone.
Officers turned on their emergency warning lights and siren, and the vehicle pulled to the side of the road.
It’s alleged that as an officer was walking towards the sedan, the driver tried to accelerate away but only managed to travel about 100 metres on the rims of the back tyre.
The sedan lost control and stopped on an embankment. The driver then allegedly ran off.
Police were able to catch the man after a short foot pursuit, while the vehicle was seized under road transport legislation for failing to stop.

Officers spotted more items inside the car, which they believed may have been stolen. A search warrant will be executed on the vehicle.
The Karabar man has been charged with one count of failing to stop a motor vehicle for police and one count of unlawful possession of stolen property, along with three other driving-related offences.
