Teen allegedly caught speeding at 180 km/h hours after getting P-plates

A teenage motorbike rider has lost his licence less than a day after getting his P-plates when he was allegedly caught speeding at 180 km/h.

ACT Policing said officers saw the teen overtaking another vehicle as he drove onto the Monaro Highway from Hindmarsh Drive at around 5:45 am on Wednesday morning (25 September).

He allegedly sped up to reach a speed of 182 km/h in a 90 km/h zone and was pulled over by the officers.

“When he was stopped by police, it was found that the rider had held his NSW provisional licence for less than 24 hours,” a police spokesperson said.

“The motorcycle was seized due to the fitting of an unroadworthy rear tyre.”

The man, an 18-year-old from Karabar in NSW, had his right to ride and drive in the ACT immediately suspended.

He was charged with driving dangerously at speed, exceeding speed of 45 km/h and riding an unsafely maintained vehicle. He was scheduled to face the ACT Magistrates Court.

“ACT Policing would like to remind all road users ahead of forecasted wet weather to adhere to speed limits and to inspect their vehicles to ensure they are roadworthy,” the police spokesperson said.
