The Suburban Land Agency has released the next section of the Lawson englobo medium to high-density housing development in Belconnen to potential developers via a two-stage Expression of Interest and Tender process.

Lawson Two comprises 43.16 hectares of land on the shores of Lake Ginninderra and is within walking distance to schools, the University of Canberra, GIO Stadium and Calvary Hospital.

The sales brochure says it represents an opportunity for developers to construct built form or on-sell multi-unit sites, and has the potential for staged development.

There is capacity for 940 dwellings over nine blocks, with building heights up to six storeys.

The SLA said that as part of the ACT Government’s commitment to provide more affordable housing for Canberrans, Lawson Two would include 80 affordable dwellings, 20 community dwellings and 24 public housing dwellings.

Lawson Two also dedicates one hectare of the site to creating community hubs, including a proposed village centre, neighbourhood playground and community garden.

Successful purchasers will be responsible for the construction of civil infrastructure and surrounding high-quality landscaping.

Suburban Land Agency CEO John Dietz said Lawson Two offered a fantastic opportunity for developers. “This land is ideally situated on the doorstep of Belconnen’s town centre with easy access to Canberra’s city centre, hospitals and major university campuses,” he said.

“Lawson Two will become an extension of the existing Lawson community in a well-connected Canberra suburb. With the success of Lawson’s previous releases, we are expecting significant interest in this parcel of land.”

Expressions of interest close 23 August 2018. Knight Frank is handling the sale.
