A man will face court accused of repeatedly assaulting his partner after confining her in their home on the weekend.
ACT Policing said the pair had gotten into a verbal argument at about 10:30 pm on Saturday (20 July) after he had several alcoholic drinks.
He originally demanded she leave their home, but after she agreed, he allegedly barricaded the door and refused to let her get out.
He then allegedly assaulted her by repeatedly shoving and choking her.
“The woman was able to contact emergency services using her smartwatch, and police arrived a short time later,” a police spokesperson said.
The 61-year-old man was arrested and handed two counts of assault as well as single counts of forcible confinement and choking.
He was expected to face the ACT Magistrates Court on Monday (22 July).
