Man approaches eight-year-old boy in Phillip park

Police are calling for witnesses to come forward after a man allegedly approached an eight-year-old boy at a park in Phillip on Tuesday afternoon (6 August).

Around 4:45 pm, the boy was riding his scooter at Eddison Park in Phillip, when he was approached by a man near a set of outdoor gym equipment.

The boy ran to his father, who confronted the man.

The man ran to the Woden Cemetery car park, where he got into a brown/gold Range Rover 4WD and drove towards Yamba Drive near the Canberra Hospital.

The man is described as Caucasian, of medium build, with short hair, clean-shaven, wearing a lime green shirt with a logo, blue jeans and work boots.

Police want to remind parents, guardians and teachers to make sure children understand how to keep themselves safe, particularly when walking to and from school, and to teach children about stranger safety.

If you become aware of an incident or notice anyone acting suspiciously around a school or child, contact police immediately on 131 444 or in the case of an emergency call 000.

The quicker police can respond and attend to an incident of this nature, the quicker they can target the area and surrounds.
