More Police for Manuka?

Member for Manuka, Richard Mulcahy, is being quoted calling for more police doing foot patrols in Manuka of a weekend night.

Much as I’d like to mock him, Manuka of a night out is one of the scarier places I’ve ever been. Including the time I saw a knife fight in the muslim quarter of Beijing.

UPDATED ABC Online has John Hargreaves saying that labelling the area as a “hot-spot” is already fixing the problem.

I’m still mourning the death of the gypsy bar….Ive only ever come across a small number of bars in australia with such a good atmosphere!! I do hang out at church a bit… but it still lacks that something.

Manuka is a seedy crap-hole after 10pm of a night. The last time I went there, I must have been there for perhaps an hour, within which time a saw a street fight near the crossing in addition to some poor guy walking round covered in blood and totally wired because he had just been randomly punched in the face by some tight polo shirt (with the collar up) faux hawk wearing jock he didn’t even know or say “boo” to, or so he seemed to be saying. But is there any where there worth going to anyway?
