Got an anniversary coming up with your beloved? Want to go somewhere romantic with good food? It’s easy to go with the tried and true Canberra restaurants like Aubergine or Sage, although I suggest skipping the traditional choices and go for something a tad different, yet still romantic.
The key is to keep it understated while also romantic and add a nice flare in after the meal like a second location for dessert (Koko Black, Max Brenner, San Churro etc) or depending which restaurant you choose you could go for a romantic stroll around a lake afterwards.
Here are my top suggestions for a romantic restaurant:
Rubicon, Griffith
Rubicon has been voted as the most romantic restaurant on Urban Spoon (by reviews people submit). This restaurant is beautiful with a ceiling of fairy lights in the outdoor seating area and intimate seating and décor. It’s also up there as far as fine dining is concerned, so not only is the atmosphere beautiful, but if you and your partner are a bit of a foodie it will go down well.
Bella Vista, Belconnen
I personally have not been to Bella Vista however it was recommended by a friend who loved it. It had a beautiful Italian feel from the mural on the wall to the water lakeside views and white linen table cloths. The service was apparently great with great food to match, there’s also the added benefit of going for a stroll around the lake after your meal to help extend the romantic evening.
Mint Garden Bar, Braddon
I love outdoor dining for anniversary dinners, it adds that extra bit of romance and this has to be my personal top choice. The outdoor décor and lighting is deliciously romantic, added with some yummy canapés and glasses of bubbly this is a really lovely spot for an anniversary night. I’d then suggest a dessert stop at Koko Black before ending your night!
M.V. Southern Cross, Yarralumla
If you’ve never tried the Southern Cross dinner cruise boat for a romantic dinner I suggest you do! It’s a great way to do something different for dinner and take in lake Burly Griffin from the water. While it’s important to remember the food is ‘fancy club food’, the location and atmosphere make up for it (in my opinion). It’s probably better to do this when you can stand the outside temperatures so you actually take advantage of standing outside on the deck between courses.
