Most romantic restaurants in Canberra for your anniversary date

Got an anniversary coming up with your beloved? Want to go somewhere romantic with good food? It’s easy to go with the tried and true Canberra restaurants like Aubergine or Sage, although I suggest skipping the traditional choices and go for something a tad different, yet still romantic.

The key is to keep it understated while also romantic and add a nice flare in after the meal like a second location for dessert (Koko Black, Max Brenner, San Churro etc) or depending which restaurant you choose you could go for a romantic stroll around a lake afterwards.

Here are my top suggestions for a romantic restaurant:

Rubicon, Griffith

Rubicon has been voted as the most romantic restaurant on Urban Spoon (by reviews people submit). This restaurant is beautiful with a ceiling of fairy lights in the outdoor seating area and intimate seating and décor. It’s also up there as far as fine dining is concerned, so not only is the atmosphere beautiful, but if you and your partner are a bit of a foodie it will go down well.

Bella Vista, Belconnen

I personally have not been to Bella Vista however it was recommended by a friend who loved it. It had a beautiful Italian feel from the mural on the wall to the water lakeside views and white linen table cloths. The service was apparently great with great food to match, there’s also the added benefit of going for a stroll around the lake after your meal to help extend the romantic evening.

Mint Garden Bar, Braddon

I love outdoor dining for anniversary dinners, it adds that extra bit of romance and this has to be my personal top choice. The outdoor décor and lighting is deliciously romantic, added with some yummy canapés and glasses of bubbly this is a really lovely spot for an anniversary night. I’d then suggest a dessert stop at Koko Black before ending your night!

M.V. Southern Cross, Yarralumla

If you’ve never tried the Southern Cross dinner cruise boat for a romantic dinner I suggest you do! It’s a great way to do something different for dinner and take in lake Burly Griffin from the water. While it’s important to remember the food is ‘fancy club food’, the location and atmosphere make up for it (in my opinion). It’s probably better to do this when you can stand the outside temperatures so you actually take advantage of standing outside on the deck between courses.

Over to you Rioters – what are your favourite romantic restaurants for anniversaries?

Green Herring. Romantic atmosphere, crackling fire, cosy feel and lovely food.

For our tenth wedding anniversary two weeks ago, we went to Maccas with the kids.

A big thumbs up to Antagonist!

For those of us who want to get away from the kids, and can afford good French food. I recommend Courgette.

Anywhere decent in the New Acton area, followed by drinks sitting around the fire in the Hotel Hotel lobby bar.

Any of the above …. As long as the better half is paying.

How about Grazing at Gundaroo..

A great place for vertically challenged people but painful for tall people.

Aubergine > Rubicon everyday of the week and twice on Sundays. Although perhaps that’s more a comment on the food side rather than the atmosphere.

Vale The Oak Room at the Hyatt, where you could top off the romantic experience by staying the night.

Oh nice, Hyatt didn’t even cross my mind!

Sadly the Oak Room is no longer with us, and the Promenade doesn’t really cut it, haha. Although, afternoon high tea at the Hyatt could be a nice start to a romantic evening.

Charcoal grill is awesome,
Followed by Dendy premium.

Chang Cho Thai then ice cream

Maybe a stroll back to where you had your first kiss as a couple. (ok I got a proposal there too on our last anniversary).

It’s not really about where you go it’s about doing something together while celebrating the time you have spent together.

How about Grazing at Gundaroo..

How cliche and boring.

Picnic in Commonwealth Park. Sneak some gourmet goodies into the movies. Early swim then cafe brunch.

Think outside the box a bit.

For our tenth wedding anniversary two weeks ago, we went to Maccas with the kids. But that says more about who we are, where we came from (we had nothing but the clothes on our backs), and what we have been through together. Our second choice would have been the Hyperdome Food Court. It would be nice to try some fine dining but we cannot afford it, nor do we care much for it. Horses for courses as they say 🙂

We’ve enjoyed La Cantina in Narrabundah.

Artisan at Narrabundah is a good option as well. Agree on Rubicon.
