Given the myriad issues facing the ACT music industry it is more important now than ever for all stakeholders to have a consolidated voice. MusicACT, initially called ACT Live Music Association, formed as a direct result of the initiatives that the ACT Government and departmental staff have implemented over the past 12 months, including the Review of the Arts in Canberra, the interdepartmental committee on barriers to live music, and the live music stakeholder forums facilitated by artsACT, as well as the Legislative Assembly review into Live Music in the ACT.
Currently the ACT is the only jurisdiction in Australia without a peak body for music and representation within the Australian Music Industry Network, a need that MusicACT will fulfil. We are seeking a broad membership including musicians, DJs, producers, venues, and music related organisations, educators, retailers, businesses and professionals.
The MusicACT committee is made up of representatives of various facets of the industry, including musicians, venue owners, event managers, the media, and music business and management professionals.
Our mandate is “promotion and advocacy of music in the ACT”.
The launch of MusicACT will be held at The Deck at Regatta Point on Wednesday October 12 at 6.30pm. All media are welcome to attend. Please RSVP to info@musicact.com.au by Friday October 7.
