New House for Our Lords and Masters?

che 7 April 2005 3

The SMH has this introspective article by Alan Ramsey looking at the changes in Canberra and some of the influences that brought them about over the years, ending with the idea that before too long we’ll have our own little ACT Parliament sitting upon City Hill.

It’s a very strange article, doubly so when you consider the Sydney target audience.

I think he’s saying our local government are a bunch of spivs, nutters and f*cktards and sometimes democracy is not an ideal.

I’ve always thought that limits on executive power are a necessary precursor to healthy democracy and we’ve not managed that pre-requisite here.

habing said that our old, safe, well funded, ACT administration fought tooth and nail to have al-fresco cafe’s outlawed.

rough with the smooth eh?

act would be better off having part time ‘councillors’ and employing a city manager with wide ranging authority.

Good. It really does need a bigger building, especially if the plans to increase the number of MLAs goes ahead.
