They have been busy installing this new sculpture over the weekend, in front of DOHA in Woden
All the perforations (b&w shot) will make this look amazing once lights are on … can’t wait to shoot it at night 🙂

well the residents of the new apartment towers to be built across the road will have a good view of it.
maybe it is symbolic tear for the car drivers when the car parking between Aviation House and ACT Govt Library disappears under said apartment blocks.

Any you like, it’s worthless. (Apart from scrap value.)

You seem to be confused about the concept of “art”, and the associated concept of someone being an “artist”. This is understandable.

Sounds tricky
I thought we weren’t wasting money on this rubbish any more?

What could possibly be a better name than that?

But provoking a reaction doesn’t implies that it’s good.

Price is different from value, and depends only on what someone is prepared to pay. I’ll bid $1.00, but I bet the local council paid more.
It has been said that for art to be good it needs to give the viewer a reaction. Looks like it is doing that very well. I would not call the person who made this an artist though as it looks like it has been made by a designer. An artist creates from the soul, a designer creates from the head.
Art is a necessary part of life: people who are depressed should go to an art/craft gallery and more than likely their mood is changed.
I saw that today going from the gym to the Plaza. Reminds me of the shape of some of the new starters at the gym.
“The Tears of the Taxpayer” or “The Pear of Anguish” – love ’em both!
I’d love to see someone stick a giant lemon on the top.
It’s quite nice, though.
What price can you put on art like this?
The leaning teardrop/pear/juicer of Woden. Is there anyone out there who has specifically requested more street “art” from their “government”? I know it’s petty to say that the money could buy something else, but if these peices of art are all they can come up with to try and turn Canberra into some sort of funky euro city then it’s a bit sad. Would like to know the price tag.
I’m willing to bet some trees around that corner would have looked nicer and been cheaper.
Having said that, it is one of the better looking pieces of public art I’ve seen.

Now, I was thinking it but I most certainly wasnt going to say it 😛

Ah! This name gets my vote.
I hope they credit Philippe Starck with its design.
It’s essentially the Philippe Starck juicer with its legs ripped off and flipped upside down.

I’m thinking impossibly groovy aliens with an indecipherable message on their spaceship. I’m thinking Jesus wept (and that was over a health issue). It looks like it should open out into some other shape. I wonder if it’s about grief?
It’s beautiful, at least in these photos. But it makes the building behind it look so ugly. (Probably not very hard to do.)

So where’s its twin?
Looks like a Pear of Anguish.
Apart from that mental image, I like it.
The first leaper suicide to it it will make a splash.
