The ACT Government has appointed Canberra-based company PBS Building to build Stage two of the Belconnen Arts Centre.

The Government is investing $15 million in the new multi-use town hall and performance space, dance studio, expanded exhibition space, café, conference room, new public toilets and a foreshore upgrade.

Minister for the Arts and Community Events Gordon Ramsay said the project would give a growing and diverse community more opportunities to engage with local artists and participate in the arts.

“Belconnen Arts Centre has established itself as an essential and proactive arts organisation, offering a fantastic range of programs and events including dance classes, art exhibitions, workshops and even concerts. These opportunities will continue to grow when the building is complete at the end of 2019,” he said.

“We’ve been working closely with the team at the Belconnen Arts Centre, who have provided valuable feedback and input into the design, and will continue to do so as Stage two progresses.”

Construction will begin later this year and is expected to take 18 months, with completion in late 2019.
