The Canberra comedy scene has seen some exponential growth recently, boosted by Canberra’s Dayne Rathbone heading to Edinburgh soon after winning the national Raw Comedy competition and a run of sell-out shows by Capital Punishment in Melbourne and an ever-growing number of open-mic performers keen to get up and have a go. As a result, the Pot Belly open-mic comedy night is being trialled fortnightly, starting last night (May 18) the next Pot Belly open mic will be on June 1 and so on from there.
Anyone keen to get up and have a go or just come and check it out and have a laugh (of which there were plenty last night) it goes from 7.30pm for an 8pm show-start and the Pot is located at Weedon Close, Belconnen. To sign up, fin the event on Facebook at the group Stand-up Comedy in Canberra, or email kimball.greg@gmail.com.
If the raw open-mic scene isn;t your thing, June 1 at the Civic Pub also sees a visit from a seasoned MICF vetern and one of the best joke technicians in the country, Melbourne’s Karl Chandler. I caught Karl’s show in Melbourne and it was piss-funny. Highly recommended. Civic Pub, June 1, $10.
