Power surge hits civic

It always amazes me that ActewAGL ads appear thick and fast straight after an “event”.

A large power surge hit Civic around 1:30pm today, it didn’t cause any damage (that I know of), but it did take out some traffic light briefly, create minor havoc in offices with computers restarting and lights going out.

I was on a bus at the time and saw the traffic lights flash amber for a couple minutes, and had to pull the plug on my ADSL modem and switch to get them working again. I have received reports of minor problems is the Canberra Centre.

ActewAGL remain silent.

But they didn’t just “give it to me”…..I had to chase after them to get it. It wasn’t really the money so much..I just wanted to make the point that they just can’t go turning off the power to carry our repairs without a warning to the residents in that particular area that the power would be off for 2 hours. If nobody complains, they might think they can get away with it anytime.

I received a cheque for $100 from ACTEW as compensation for losing my power (without warning ) on August 2, 2004.
