Raiders smashed at home

I hope I’m proved wrong but I believe that this team has no hope with David Furner as coach and the present management in place. Furner inspires no confidence when you hear him talk and doesn’t seem able to maintain player enthusiasm over 80 minutes let alone from week to week. The current squad is very light on halves and lacking depth when players have to play although injured. Young players are in first grade before they have the physical strength and experience necessary. The interchange bench is always forwards. Most other clubs have players capable of playing in the backs but able to slot into lock or second row or a utility back who can switch into hooker or dummy half.

Don’t hack on the fans for not turning up…at the moment NRL are struggling to get decent numbers to any game. Blame the douche bag players consistently in the news for what seems to be the same offences on repeat. Give us something worth watching than arrogant d-grade celebrities acting the fool off the field and we might want to watch more of what happens on the field

The amount of times I have run into Todd Carney and every other rubbish excuse for a raider (or human being for that matter) in clubs – blind drunk, banged up on pills and other substances (omg yes raiders do drugs), starting fights, harassing girls (groping, licking, perverse comments)

So as for “I’d turn up if they were playing well” I think I’m more along the lines of “I’d turn up and watch a sport that wasn’t full of the ass end of society”

The flip side is, not all players are like this – alot of these guys are really talented, make good role models for young lads…but this is overshadowed by what I’ve mentioned prior.

I was at the game and it seemed like there were more Tigers supporters than Raiders supporters. I can only assume because Tigers fans a pretty dedicated and all would have pre-purchased their tickets before checking the weather, where as most local Raiders supporters would buy on the day depending on the lovely Canberra weather.

Also, playing it live on TV doesn’t help. I would have gone, but watching it live on TV from the comfort of my couch seemed way too inviting…

I agree 2604, its hard to get sarcasm in the post! But a cold wet Canberra day is hardly going to get many turning up.

Look, no offence, but if I was looking to start a new team to participate in any code, Canberra is the last place I would want to do it. Canberrans are the worst of the worst when it comes to fickleness and being fairweather fans. They follow whatever team is popular and/or successful, but turn their backs on teams which are struggling. Today’s AFL game is a great illustration – Sydney are very average this year and the Dees are doing it tough with their young roster, and how many people show up? 7000, only about half as many as turned up to the same fixture last year. And yet I swear I’ve never seen so many Geelong and Hawthorn fans around town as there are now.

The drop-off in spectator support for the Raiders, Brumbies, and (a few years ago now) Cannons illustrates this, too. Anyone who says “I’d turn up if they were playing well” is missing the point. Teams need support most when they’re struggling, not when they’re winning every week and are the flavour of the month.

well lots of kids went home disappointed & very wet(mine included) due to the rain they cancelled the field run on after the game as it was too dangerous.
