League HQ brings news of the Raiders’ upset win over the Dragons at Canberra Stadium tonight, in front of 19,350 fans.

The Raiders went into the half-time break 6-0 down, which went to 12-0 soon after the break. However, from there the home side was never headed, and ran in three converted tries and kicked three penalty goals to seal the game.

The Raiders’ younger generation was outstanding – Josh Dugan, Jarrod Croker, Joel Thompson and Daniel Vidot all had blinders. Man of the match Josh Miller also made some monstrous hits.

While 2009 is all but over for the club, results like this augur well for next season.

It was the match of the entire NRL season. Those who missed it missed a genuine event. Get to the final home game V Knights!

Why find a way when its easier to whinge?

One issue though – 80 bucks for a family of four is a bit steep when compared to other NRL teams. A quick check of the Ticketek website shows ALL other teams have much better prices for families. This season Homebush, Brookvale and Suncorp have all provided much cheaper general entry prices for families.

I don’t think that it’s quite right to say that all other teams have much better prices. My own, three-second look at the Ticketek site tells me that nosebleed seats for the Titans at home also costs $80 for a family of four.

Students got in for $15 on Saturday, and Canberra Milk ran a two for one ticket promotion, meaning that you could have gotten your family of four in for $45. For your $45, you would have gotten three games of football (ie four hours’ worth), including an international fixture and one of the best games of the NRL season, with the home side winning. As for food and beer, just smuggle it in like the rest of us.

Bottom line is, if you want to support your local team, you’ll find a way.

You should come to the next home game el, it is well worth the trip out to Bruce.

I’m not sure it’s worth it. I’m a Tigers fan. That, and it’s a mighty long drive to Bruce from Brisbane…

Except for the brawl in the inner bowl on george gregan stand side.
Other then that it was a good night

If there was one game worth seeing this year, this was definitely it. Sure, flogging the broncos was great fun too, but this game was Intense with a capital I! Fights on the field, fights off the field, sin-binnings and eventually a major, major upset.

Damn it’s good fun being a Raiders fan!

I missed the game not being that big a fan of the Faders…. I saw the highlights on Sunday Roast and it would seem that the better team won the game and the barney. Bring back the biff I say, including the former character who coined the phrase – hasn’t that issue gone quiet? After the last Origin game I thought that a little disagreement on field and the who third man problem had gone away….

The game was a cracker – tries, stinks, binnings.

I would go to Bruce more often if the prices were more reasonable (and the hopeless caters provided beer other than VB and arranged to have hot food available at half time)

They made the finals last year – in fact they’ve made the finals in six out of the past nine years. So, this year notwithstanding, their record in reaching the finals isn’t too bad.

Although, to be honest, they’ve mostly just scraped into the finals and gone straight out in the first week. Not since 2003 have they been even a vaguely realistic chance of winning the competition.

It must be frustrating as hell to be a Raiders fan – it seems that every season in recent memory they start out promising, flake out through the bulk of the middle of the season, then once they’re well and truly out of finals contention start stringing together awesome performances and victories against the top-tier teams.

Best game of the year by far – well done Raiders!!

Would like to have been there, looked like a good game.

I only watched it on TV, but the itensity of the Raiders was great. Best performance from them for years!

It was dead set like ‘days of old’. Nigh on 20,000 there, plenty of passion in the field and plenty off, with many a vocal Dragons supporter present.

Great atmosphere and a great night. You could have sworn the ghosts of Mal, Ricky, Brad and Laurie were out there.

And I hope Mr. Weyman remembered he is now playing for the Dragons when he woke up. Josh Miller has also, I’m very glad to say, proven me wrong
