Canberra Raiders SG Ball outside back Jacob Iosefa remains in intensive care at Canberra Hospital after sustaining serious injuries in a car accident on Monday night (1 May).

Jacob was returning to Canberra from his home city of Wagga Wagga when the accident took place.

He had just signed a two-year deal with the Raiders after starring in the club’s under-19 SG Ball side in a season in which they won the minor premiership but missed out on the grand final.

The Canberra Raiders released a statement on Wednesday providing details about Jacob’s condition, confirming he is in intensive care.

The club is supporting Jacob’s family, who travelled from Wagga Wagga to be with him and help with his recovery.

The club is also supporting teammates and school friends while Jacob is in hospital.

A GoFund Me page has been established to help Jacob and his family with medical expenses, food and accommodation in Canberra.

The online fundraising page was established by Bec Holland of Wagga Wagga.

Bec says, “I have started this fundraiser on behalf of Startrack Wagga for Evelyn Iosefa, mum to Jacob Iosefa, who is not only a valued colleague but a very dear friend of mine. On the 1st of May [the] son of Evelyn, who has been the heart and soul of Startrack Wagga for the past five years, Jacob Iosefa, was involved in a serious car accident on his way home to Canberra where he sustained life-threatening injuries and is currently fighting for life in Canberra Hospital.”

Bec goes on to say, “It’s going to be a long road to recovery for Jacob. All donations would be a huge help.”

So far, over $14,000 has been raised, but further support is needed to help Jacob and his family at this very difficult time. If you would like to contribute, visit GoFund Me.
