Reiki Recommendations?

By Eby - 28 January 2010 49

Hi everyone,

I’m interested in trying out a Reiki session, and wondered if anyone can recommend a good practitioner?

Thanks for your help!

What’s Your opinion?

You’d have got those sort of posts anyway Eby – this is RiotACT after all…

Yes, I know (sigh). This website is so frustrating at times. It is an interesting and useful source of current affairs in the ACT; and has the potential to be an excellent forum for Canberrans to share information. I have used Riotact before to count on the expertise of other locals for their knowledge and experience (most recently where I could get good quality, fresh oysters from).

I expected that some people wouldn’t be able to restrain themselves from putting their sarcastic comments forward, although am still disappointed when people do. I also wonder how many people are scared off from posting on this site because they know they can expect inappropriate responses.

Again, I didn’t ask for comments on the integrity or validity of Reiki; just on whether people could make any recommendations. I ask that people with other comments to please refrain from posting. You could always start a new post debating the merits of Reiki.

You have to pay money for receiving any kind of healing whether spiritual or modern regardless of the efficacy. Pharmaceutical companies make billions of dollars by screwing people over in a variety of ways but that seems to be perfectly fine as long as you can see the pill… *bitter* πŸ˜‰

Just trying to save you the dollars you’ve worked for, you have worked for them haven’t you? In which case they are probably quite valuable. If on the other hand you’re spending an inheritance then I withdraw my previous post and say ‘Go for it Girl!”

Don’t waste my time…

If it’s saving time you’re after, you could start by giving up on reiki …

Thanks Deye, I’ll look her up.

I probably should have mentioned in the post that I’m not interested in rude or sarcastic comments regarding the validity of reiki. Don’t waste my time (or yours).

Welcome to the internet.

BTW – I have a rock I can sell you which keeps bears away – and because you’re so nice I’ll discount the price down to $50. It also improves the ‘efficiency’ of reiki if it’s located nearby. Honest. Do you see any bears here?

There is insufficient evidence to indicate that reiki is effective as sole or adjuvant therapy for any medical condition, or that it has any benefits beyond possible placebo effects.

Oh, delicious irony.

AussieRodney, believing in something you can’t see is one thing. I certainly believe there is hope for the human race, despite the fact that, as a race, we are woefully susceptible to irrational thought, quackery and fanciful pseudo-science.

Believing in something that has been not proved to work, or been proved not to work, is another matter entirely.

It must be wonderful to be so confident in your own opinions that you can’t possibly believe anything you can’t actually see.

Which is a whole lot more polite than what I really wanted to say.

There’s no such thing as a ‘good practitioner’, unless all you are seeking is snake oil:

Placebos are wonderful things aren’t they? I wonder if their efficacy is actually increased by paying good money for a placebo effect. I guess it must be or Reiki and other spiritual healings would have died off a long time ago.

Try Linda at Therapy Masters in Civic http://therapymasters.com.au/
I haven’t had a Reiki session, but I do go to her for Lomi Lomi massage. If she is anywhere near as good at Reiki as she is at Lomi Lomi you will be in good hands.
