The Canberra Roller Derby League have announced their much anticipated 2012 schedule.

The first bout is on 31 March:

March 31st will see 2011?s champions, the Red Bellied Black Hearts, clash on the track against the Brindabelters, who came away last year with the league’s Wooden Spoon. Both teams are under new leadership and with a feisty horde of new bouting skaters being drafted to all of CRDL’s home teams this season is set to be an interesting one! CRDL’s newest members are previously dedicated fans who aspired to join the fray, training for months to meet the gruelling standards necessary to become bouting skaters; we can’t wait to see what will become of these new crowd favourites!

The bout will take place at Tuggeranong’s Southern Cross Stadium, an arena familiar to derby veterans as having played host to many a nail-biting spectacle since 2009. Doors open at 5pm (come early to grab the choicest viewing spot) for a 6pm start. CRDL still provides the most bang for your buck in terms of sheer entertainment value, as tickets are a mere $10 (plus booking fee) and children under 5 get in free.

Tickets go on sale tomorrow.

Fantastic! I’ll be in Canberra that weekend so will definitely check it out.

I love derby; did you know that it’s the women’s sport that pulls the biggest crowd in the country?
