Fleetwood Mac were blaring, a painted line marked out a skating area in Garema Place, roller soccer was being perpetrated, Andrew Barr was talking to a camera, yep it must be the launch of Roller Skate In The City.
Canberra CBD have put out a media release with all the details.
Tickets are now on sale for the national capital’s first outdoor roller skate rink, in Garema Place for Roller Skate in the City.
Roller Skate in the City, an initiative by Canberra CBD Ltd, provides all ages with the opportunity to roller skate in the middle of the city, beginning on Friday 6 January.
Following the popularity of Skate in the City (the winter ice skating rink in Garema Place), with more than 19,000 people from across the country putting on skates, Canberrans and visitors are being encouraged to take part and enjoy this outdoor summer activity in the city.
Roller Skate in the City will also feature retro movie nights, including Xanadu, Roller Derby demonstrations and feature skate displays which will also be on show as part of the four-week summer initiative.
Locally-based companies, Vida Sparkling Vitamin Water and Chameleon Ice Creamery, will also be present on rink to refresh and rehydrate the summer roller skaters.
Tickets are available online or at the rink, but they advise booking ahead to avoid disappointment.
It will run to 6 February 2012.
UPDATE: Andrew Barr has voiced his support for the concept.
