Two local professionals have been promoted to senior roles in leading professional services firm RSM Australia.

Effective 1 July, Chris Oates became director of financial services, and Adam Cormack was appointed director of restructuring and recovery.

Part of the RSM team since 2017, Chris said he is excited to be part of the Canberra team and help out the national side of things as well.

“I have been a financial planner for around 10 years and I am looking forward to my new role,” Chris said.

“It’s going to be great to continue helping the clients but also be more involved in management, and making an impact from a more senior position.

“I think it will be a great experience.”

Adam commenced his journey with RSM as a graduate 11 years ago in the Canberra restructuring and recovery division.

His appointment to director underscores RSM’s commitment to nurturing internal talent, which has seen many graduates evolve into leaders of the firm, including Canberra-based colleague and RSM partner Jonathon Colbran.

Adam said he is looking forward to continuing to provide high-quality support to RSM Australia’s clients in his new role.

“It’s a privilege to assist and support our clients with best-practice solutions and advice when they are facing challenging conditions and circumstances,” Adam said.

“I’m looking forward to continuing this work alongside the rest of the team as we continue to grow our restructuring and recovery practice in Canberra.”

National head of restructuring and recovery Frank Lo Pilato said the appointments highlighted the value of having a strong and experienced leadership group.

“In the current economic climate, the expertise and leadership of business restructuring and turnaround experts is more important than ever,” Frank said.

“Our restructuring and recovery team is the largest of its kind in the Canberra region and is also a seasoned team. That translates to providing real value to our clients.”

RSM has been involved in some of the most complex and high-profile restructuring and insolvency cases in the region, including PBS, Pialligo Estate and Project Coordination.

“Adam’s promotion means that we now have three senior leaders in our restructuring and recovery division in Canberra, which offers a significant wealth of knowledge and experience to our clients,” Frank said.

Managing partner of RSM Australia’s Canberra office, Andrew Sykes, said Adam and Chris’s new roles, alongside appointments across the wider business, highlight RSM Australia’s success in recent years.

“These promotions reflect RSM’s rapid growth and our dedication to delivering excellence in the Canberra region, particularly through our robust Restructuring and Recovery services,” Andrew said.

“As we celebrate these appointments, we reaffirm our commitment to developing our team and contributing to the prosperity of our clients and the wider community.”
