Does anyone know of good Russian language classes in the ACT?

I’ve checked the CIT short courses, and Russian isn’t offered, so where else could I look?

Russian 4 Romance is short, fun introduction to Russian language and culture for anyone wishing to impress a Russian. In just 2 evenings you will learn how to:

avoid being embarrassed by a scam
safely and easily organise travel and visas

Funny to see that “Russian” (in reality often-Ukrainian) brides are still popular with fat, desperate losers that never had family at the age of 40+, looking for a wife 15+ years younger. I guess, they are better than those losers getting themselves asian wives. Long live the losers!
Teach them “Ya zhirniy urod” ( accurate description for majority of losers), “Skolko za chas?” and “Minet bez rezinki, pozhaluista”. 😀

what a nasty little combination of bigotry and sexual frustration

25 years ago, I used to have an ethics lecturer at uni who was such a convinced communist that he drove a Skoda before the fall of the iron curtain.

If he was one, his choice on “wheels” would be Lada (Ugly but tough ©). But as he was driving Czech “Skoda”, well, this means he was “soft cocked commie wannabe”. 🙂

25 years ago, I used to have an ethics lecturer at uni who was such a convinced communist that he drove a Skoda before the fall of the iron curtain. Most of what he said was way over my head but I do remember one of his catchphrases was “If you want to learn Russian, just start reading the Pravda”.

I’m not surprised Porker. I gather the Finns and the Russkis go back a little ways…:-)

Russian 4 Romance is short, fun introduction to Russian language and culture for anyone wishing to impress a Russian. In just 2 evenings you will learn how to:
pay exactly the right compliment and when

know what to say and do to show your intentions

You will also get to try some authentic home-cooked Russian cuisine, including desserts.

The sessions will be held in Civic on the 27th of November and the 4th of December, from 6 PM until 8 PM. The cost is $99, bookings essential at russian4romance@gmail.com or 0477 466 217

I can vouch for the Russian classes at the Civic Library. The teacher, Galina, puts a lot of effort into making sure that classes are relevant for individual students. If you’re a beginner, great – you’ll start with the basics (including the script) but if you already know some Russian then the continuing classes will extend your vocabulary and improve your confidence, starting from wherever you’re up to. Galina makes you speak, speak, speak, which is great because I find that building confidence to open your mouth is probably the most difficult part of learning a language! It’s really flexible too – you can start any time and classes are charged in 5-lesson blocks.

The on-going fun “Russian Language & Culture Classes” on Monday and Wednesday nights in Civic Library. The Wednesday beginners group is starting next week. Also “Russian for Travelers” is starting again soon and is great if you are planning a trip there. russianclassescanberra@gmail.com

Hi, I am teaching Russian on Mondays at 6.30 in Civic library. Email me for details if you are interested.

In Soviet Russia car drives you.

I’d have done the ANU course myself, except it was on the only night of the week, I couldn’t go.
The russian embassy may be able to help with other options too.

Besides I don’t really have plans to speak it fluently, just read cyrillic and some basic stuff, to get by in Central Asia.

trastuit tovarich, njet ponimai pa ruski

I’ll look into the ANU course, thanks 🙂 I’m taking Arabic right now too, so waiting six months won’t be a problem.

I’m going to do a russian course at the Weston Brain gym, which I think is now at Woden at Canberra College. I’m only looking at it as a quick course for an trip to Central Asia later this year though.
The ANU course would be better if you want to learn Russian and speak it fluently eventually.

CIT is also planning to stop their language courses which is a shame. I studied the Cert III Spanish this year (and failed miserably), buit it was still one of the best ways to learn.

Start playing EVE Online, head out to the drone regions and say hello to the Drone Russian Federation? 🙂

The ANU’s Centre for Continuing Education has a “Beginning Russian” course. Alas this semester is full (Wait 1/2 a year?)
