Verity Lane Market has filled all six kitchens in their food hall for the first time since 2020 with the arrival of Seoul Chicken. The venue now boasts cuisines from Italy, Indonesia, Singapore, South America, China and Korea, as well as their bar offerings.
Korean fried chicken is the soul food of Seoul, and the team has put together a menu that will satisfy your deepest chi-maek (chicken and beer) cravings!
“In Korea, chicken is more than just a meal; it’s a beloved soul food, cherished especially after a long day of work, so we’ve brought our delicious soul food to Canberra’s favourite after-work spot,” co-owners Yeonju Kim and Jihoon Lee explained.
The pair also run popular market stall ‘Welcome to Croffle’, which introduced Canberrans to their fusion waffle-croissants.
Much like other Verity Lane venues, Seoul Chicken aims to have a relatively small menu that is delicious, affordable and quick. Committed to quality and authenticity, the team uses soy oil in their fryers because of its high smoke point.
Customers can choose from five different varieties of fried chicken, including sweet and spicy, traditional and snow cheese options. Super cheesy mozzarella sticks, waffle fries and sweet potato fries are all side options, and there are also two ‘UFO’ burgers, made with specially shaped buns to minimise sauce spillage and maximise flavour.
We visited Verity Lane to have a chi-maek dinner of our own!
I was told that sweet and spicy chicken was the most popular choice, so we got a serve of that as well as garlic soy chicken and a side of cheese sticks. The fried chicken portions are generous and include a side of waffle fries.
There’s just something so satisfying about fried chicken. It was the perfect meal for chatting with a friend and we ate far more than we should have! The cheese sticks were deliciously melty and the accompanying dipping sauce was surprisingly zingy, which contrasted nicely with all the fried food we were eating.
The chicken stayed super moist, and the sweet and spicy sauce was perfectly balanced. I enjoyed mopping up the extra sauce on my plate with the waffle fries. It paired well with a pint of the Verity Hazy IPA, which was brewed in celebration of their birthday. In keeping with the fried chicken tradition, both plates came with a side dish of fresh daikon pickles, although I could have easily done with twice as many.
I’d come back for one of their UFO burgers – I spotted someone else’s plate and it looked very enticing.
If you’re looking for a super satisfying feed then Seoul Chicken will hit the spot!
