Specialist officers called in after explosives found in Forrest hotel room

Specialist police officers were called to Forrest last night after commercial-grade explosives, ammunition and a homemade firearm were found in a hotel room.

At about 10:00 pm on Thursday (15 July), police received information that a man wanted in connection to bail and other offences was at the hotel.

Police attended the hotel and found a 26-year-old man and a woman staying in a room.

A number of items, including commercial-grade explosives, ammunition and a homemade firearm were also found, requiring specialist officers to attend to make them safe.

The man was subsequently arrested and faced ACT Magistrates Court earlier today in relation to a significant number of previous offences.

Enquiries are continuing about items found in the man’s hotel room and a stolen vehicle located in the hotel’s parking area. Forensic examination of these items is underway and further charges are expected.
