Just got word of this unconfirmed news. Apparently local Canberra identity and 2004 Senate candidate Dave Edwards, who was known to wash car windscreens on Northbourne Avenue, was found dead in his home.

This is sad news because any loss of life, especially a suicide, is tragic. However I doubt it will have much impact on the upcoming federal election.

Someone’s gotta do it Ingee. Looks like too many people gave a shit about you.

DMD as long as you’re out there worrying about these toe-rags the rest of us can rest easy in the knowledge that we’re free to get on with our lives. Good work fella.

My god, Ingee, you are even worse than I thought you were.
“Suicide is the ultimate form of self criticism” – have you ever known someone who has committed suicide? I have. I’ve known decent, respectable people who’ve taken their own lives without warning in bouts of depression. In fact, I find what you just said personally offensive. You are a mean-spirited, ignorant and in my opinion a terrible failure of a person. If you ever get out of your ‘real world’ and have the chance to look at THE REAL WORLD, you’ll find a fair share of victims (yes, I will call them victims. Depression is often a mental illness) of suicide are average everyday people, who have for some reason or another, felt stumped and unable to move any further. Any suicide is a utter tragedy, no matter how other people think of their ‘role and worth’ in society.
The squeegee man worked for his money. He sounds as if he was, in my opinion, the embodiment of the ‘ideal australian’. He knew where he stood and he worked hard to keep standing. It cannot be easy standing at an intersection all day with no idea how much you will earn for doing so. He also tried to make a change in society – and whilst I’m personally not familiar with his policies, and from what it sounds, I might not have liked them – I admire anyone whom actually has the guts to stand up from nothing and try to make a change they believe in, instead of ranting bullshit on the internet. He seemed to live in a world much realer than yours, Ingee – which is probably why he chose heroin to escape from it on occasion.
I personally hope he rests in peace at last.

Don’t be such a bloody bleeding heart DMD. Suicide is the ultimate form of self criticism – it’s likely that squeegee-boy had a better understanding of his role and worth in the community than his soft-head apologists – as evidenced by the actions of his own hand.

And for the record DMD, I have no idea what his effect may have been on naive public servants – I work in the real world.

Kicking the bucket’s an occupational hazard for squeegee blokes.

An associate of mine works very close to where squeegie man plyed his trade. Apparently he had to chase off competitors regularly, and dabbled in Canberra’s heroin industry via his access to rapidly moving traffic.

He often had domestics in the middle of the road with his spouse, especially when he wasn’t peddling her any of his horse.

He was certainly a character…

Don’t worry Ingee, There will be plenty more folk lined up to take his position with a fresh squeegee in hand.

VYBerlinaV8 now_with_added grunt9:07 pm 01 Oct 07

He used to clean mine for free.

Deadmandrinking7:15 pm 01 Oct 07

I know, Ingee. It is just AWFUL to have to shake your head to some guy trying to earn some money or even, heaven forbid, paying a couple of bucks for the convenience of not having to clean your windscreen yourself.
I believe we should round up all the squigee men and gas them, because irritating naive public servants is just not okay!

Can you please die, Ingee? I hate you.

Ingeegoodbee6:56 pm 01 Oct 07

This guy plied his trade in Civic you say. Looks like a good reason to start visiting Civic now that I know I will have to deal with one less traffic light parasite.

There are about 40-50 suicides a year in the ACT. All but a handful are dealt with by the shuffling of papers behind closed doors by bureaucrats.

Yeah, this happened about 2 weeks ago. Very sad news. Found out from the guy at Dickson.

Shiny Flue, your comments are inappropriate, even sick. Bag Williams, SGS or McMuppet for their policies or performance, but keep this sort of thing out of talk on the election.

Oh, but it will impact! Troy Williams over on the right side here will have no one to shine his dome!

Oh no! The Liberals will have to spend more of our money on ads to compensate.
