ACT Education has tweeted cryptically:

After a suspicious package was found at one of our schools today the staff and Police responded quickly and classes are back to normal.

We’ve asked ACT Policing for details and will update as more comes to hand.

UPDATE: This in:

ACT Policing responded to a suspicious package at a north Canberra primary school early today (Monday, September 12).

About 8am police were notified of a suspicious package on the grounds of Macquarie Primary School, in Bennelong Crescent, Macquarie.

ACT Policing General Duties members cordoned the area and requested the Specialist Response and Security (SRS) Bomb Response Team to attend.

The package was moved by the Bomb Response robot to the oval, with police cordoning the perimeter of the oval. Police conducted an x-ray of the package, deeming it safe.

A part of the school was closed off for a short time with school activities returning to normal about 10.15am.
